However, as consumers began changing their buying behaviour, newer brands began to pop up to upend the online shopping juggernaut. Take Shein for instance, the Chinese company that only recently took the world by a storm for its ultra fast fashion approach has overthrown Amazon, topping the chart as one of the most downloaded shopping apps in the world in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, Shein is not the only one. According to the newest <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.apptopia.com\/worldwide-and-us-download-leaders-2021\">data from Apptopia<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, two other e-commerce companies leapfrogged Amazon in the global rankings: Shopee, based in Singapore, which serves Southeast Asia and Latin America; and Meesho, based in India, which specializes in social e-commerce for categories including fashion and home products.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_215336\" style=\"width: 915px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-215336\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-215336 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/techwireasia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Apptopia.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"905\" height=\"571\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.techwireasia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Apptopia.png 905w, https:\/\/cdn.techwireasia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Apptopia-300x189.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.techwireasia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Apptopia-768x485.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 905px) 100vw, 905px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-215336\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">All data is iOS + Google Play combined, except for data from China which is iOS only. Source: Apptopia<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/techhq.com\/2021\/12\/amazon-hit-with-record-us1-3-billion-fine-for-abuse-of-supply-chain-monopoly\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>US e-commerce giant<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> came in fourth place overall in global shopping app installation last year. Just the year before, Amazon had the most app installs worldwide. It is fair to note though that Amazon is still first in Apptopia\u2019s US rankings for shopping app installs in 2021. India-based <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/sg\/news\/indian-e-commerce-platforms-pivot-to-games-for-survival\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Meesho<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> took the third spot with 153 million downloads.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Amazon, Shein, Shopee vs social commerce<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this point, online is growing at a torrid pace. New data from fintech and payments research specialists <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Ffintech.kaleidointelligence.com%2F&amp;esheet=52525317&amp;newsitemid=20211109005306&amp;lan=en-US&amp;anchor=Kaleido+Intelligence&amp;index=1&amp;md5=cae1338283658edc04f80f0c60990523\">Kaleido Intelligence<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has found that B2B and B2C e-commerce spend on physical goods and digital services will reach US$6 trillion this year, up from US$4.8 trillion in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But it is shopping on social media platforms that will top the chart as it is currently growing three times faster than traditional e-commerce platforms. In fact, it is on pace to reach US$1.2 trillion globally by 2025, according to a study by <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accenture.com\/us-en\">Accenture<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Most of that growth (62%) will be driven by Gen Z and millennial shoppers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe social commerce opportunity will nearly triple by 2025. Growing at a CAGR of 26%, the social commerce opportunity will reach $1.2 trillion by 2025. This accounts for 16.7% of the US$7 trillion e-commerce total spend,\u201d Accenture said in <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accenture.com\/us-en\/insights\/software-platforms\/why-shopping-set-social-revolution\">a separate report<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report also believes that China will remain the most advanced market both in size and maturity, yet the highest growth will be seen in developing markets such as <strong>I<\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/techwireasia.com\/2021\/11\/will-amazons-probe-affect-indias-e-commerce-industry\/\">ndia<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Brazil.
